Construction Update 2017-03-3131 Mar 2017
With one day to go before the bridge demolition, we have been busy preparing the area and salvaging what materials we can.
A quick recap of what was accomplished in 2016; the subgrade was placed for the south extension of Veterans Memorial Parkway to Wilton Grove Road, which also required a realignment of the Crinklaw Drain waterbody.
Construction at a Glance
We also began grading the area of the westbound on- and off-ramps which included two new pipe culverts, with the remainder of that work to be done later this spring.
Photo 4 shows the bridge deck — with equipment in the distance — set up for the Saturday night demolition, and the two eastbound on- and off-ramps following removal of all the asphalt. These will both be rebuilt slightly offset from their current locations.
Coming up in April/May 2017, the left lanes in both directions of Highway 401 will be closed to allow the centre pier and columns to be built, and the reconstruction of Wilton Grove Road at the VMP extension will also be underway.
